It started with the year-old girl down the street who told my daughter she would never get into college. I am sure many of our friends, who were devoting untold hours to ensure that their children excelled in public school, wanted to say the same thing to us. But they held their tongues. Yet I still had lingering fears. Did our choice to move to SVS constitute some sort of dangerous experimentation on our own children? Would they enjoy their SVS years but be disadvantaged in some unknown way that would make getting into college difficult?

Houston school allows students to make rules
The model has three basic tenets: educational freedom, democratic governance and personal responsibility. It is a private school , attended by children from the ages of 4 to Greenberg aimed to create a school system that was just, psychologically comfortable, and self-governing with real-life being the primary source of learning. The school started the summer of with students enrolled in a trial summer session before the school year start in September. During the summer session, there were two notable flaws: the smorgasbord plan in offering a variety of ways of information that the students could access if they wished; and the staffing.
