The Catalyst Award aims to support early career faculty at the Assistant Professor or earlier ranks in advancing their translational research careers. Applicants should propose a research plan that will help them to generate the data needed to strengthen hypotheses for subsequent extramural applications. Beginning with a human-centered design consultation, we partner with research teams across the University of Michigan to help them transform research ideas into full interventions. Our unique approach actively focuses on engaging the product or service's target audience throughout the entire design process.

As a broad preparation for the range of writing tasks students will encounter at the University of Michigan and beyond, FYWR courses emphasize evidenced, academic writing in a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. A FYWR course is foundational for students to master the kind of analysis and argumentation found in sophisticated academic writing. Students should complete their first-year writing course in their first year, and must earn a C- or higher to meet the requirement. This requirement should be satisfied before attempting a course to meet the Upper-Level Writing Requirement.
