Learning how to accomplish daily tasks with low vision or without sight can be challenging — especially as an adult who has work and family responsibilities. You can learn skills that will help you succeed in all aspects of your life with the help of our programs. We offer training that can help you in technology, orientation and mobility, activities of daily living such as cooking and cleaning, and communication including Braille. You can opt to begin with a few introductory classes or meet with a staff member to make a plan that best fits your needs.

Wise students visit an academic dean to obtain accurate information and to seek advice. Visits may include a discussion about course selection, choices of majors and minors, study abroad, internship and undergraduate research opportunities, graduate and professional school interests. I encourage students to visit my office to seek information and ask for advice regarding anything on their minds that they wish to give voice to. I am interested in the extracurricular activities and avocations of students as well.

After an inaugural call for Global Mentors applications, the Office of Global Affairs has selected the first cohort of mentors who will work with University of Virginia faculty and students in the spring semester. The seven mentors come from across the world and work in arts, music, environment, refugee rights and health, among others. Vice Provost for Global Affairs Steve Mull said while study abroad is one of the key ways for a student to have a global experience, bringing global leaders to Grounds is another important way to share those experiences.
