Google Definitions:. Despite the difference, I found out by comparing each google definition that mental health and mental illness do go hand in hand. It generalises the idea of stigma and why mental illness is being avoided in society today from two perspectives. For example, public stigma is the reaction that the general population has to people with mental illness, whereas self-stigma is the prejudice which people with mental illness turn against themselves. Both public and self-stigma may be understood in terms of three components: stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Researchers are beginning to apply what social psychologists have learned about prejudice and stereotypes in general to the stigma related to mental illness.

In your own words briefly explain what you understand is required for the Independent Research Task? We need to be interested in the topic in order for it to be a successful and fully finished research task. For primary research we can use methodologies such as surveys, interviews and observations, and for our secondary research methods we can use literature review, news programmes, statistics etc. For most of this assessment we need to complete it in our own time, but we are also given much class time to formulate questions, hand in drafts, ask questions and work on our research plans individually.
Some major findings perceived from my questionnaires include:. Irrespective of what youth today are being exposed to, the more contact that someone who is young and considered vulnerable has in regards to mass media, the more likely they are to pick up on different signals and messages that are portrayed in the media, whether these be positive or negative messages. In relation to the literature review undertaken, Marriner suggests that due to spending more and more time on social media, specifically teenage girls, are more vulnerable to developing a low self — esteem, due to being displeased with their bodies, as a result of being overexposed to the media.
Also add how I feel, the problems I am faced with and the resolutions I come up with. First day back and day one of year 12 and I have already got an assessment task due. I have set long term and short term goals for myself in order to aim high. I read through the notification and highlighted the parts that I thought were personally most important.
