On the 14 August, Jon Taylor wrote a blog piece for the Guardian Teacher Network in praise of the Socratic method, and its application in teaching. The comments on the article perhaps predictably focused on the lack of any form of assessment for rational thought, or the ability to assess critical thinking as a skill within the framework of most subjects. But the truth is, critical thinking and teaching through the Socratic method have been around for donkey's years.
