The Maya and Aztec civilizations are two vastly different civilizations, as is to expected, however, despite these differences, they do share a number of similarities. To put the obvious aside, one way the Maya and Aztec civilizations are different lies in the political environment of both civilizations; the civilization of the Maya consisted of city-states ruled by an individual leader who was usually male, while the Aztec civilization were city-states and conquered territories ruled by one leader. A common misconception that has spread throughout the world is that Christopher Columbus discovered America. Christopher Columbus never set a foot in North America. He landed in the Caribbean islands and and explored the Central and South American coasts. People have had this concept in their mind that there were no people in America before Christopher.
